The veterinary radiologist can then enhance the image for improved diagnosis by zooming, adjusting the contrast, annotating and marking, and measuring regions of interest – all by using a desktop PC. Exams can also be saved and stored on-line indefinitely, or saved to CD, eliminating and thus reclaiming the valuable storage space needed for film-based exams. All images, documentation and records in an animal examination can now be digitally archived and transmitted instantaneously anywhere in the world via the Internet to colleagues and owners. The cost of film, darkrooms and chemicals are eliminated with a PACS system, however, digital exams can still be printed to dry image printers if required.
