Celine Dion ? Elton John ? Jerry Seinfeld Join for One-of-a-Kind Performance to Aid Hurricane-Affected Families – Feb. 20, 2006, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace

Celine Dion – Elton John – Jerry Seinfeld Join for One-of-a-Kind Performance to Aid Hurricane-Affected Families – Feb. 20, 2006, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace

Las Vegas (PRWEB) December 1, 2005

Three of the world’s most popular entertainers – Celine Dion, Elton John and Jerry Seinfeld – will join for a one-night-only performance at Caesars Palace, on Monday, February 20, 2006. The Presidents Day evening gala in the resort’s Colosseum will benefit the recovery fund for hurricane-affected employees of the resort’s parent company, Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET).

“We are deeply grateful to Celine, Elton and Jerry for the generosity that will create a once-in-a-lifetime entertainment experience for our guests and sustain the important work that is helping thousands of Gulf Coast families get their lives back,” said Gary Loveman, chairman, president and chief executive officer for Harrah’s Entertainment.

Shortly after Hurricane Katrina closed Harrah’s casino/resorts in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi, and in New Orleans, Louisiana, the company seeded an Employee Recovery Fund with a donation of $ 1 million from the Harrah’s Foundation. With added donations from employees, guests and industry associates, the total has grown to $ 3 million, and has expanded to assist Hurricane Rita-affected employees of Harrah’s, Lake Charles, Louisiana. Funds are deployed in regional resource centers, directly to Gulf Coast employees through the company’s 501-3-c non-profit foundation.

At Caesars Palace, Celine Dion stars in “A New Day…,” Elton John performs “The Red Piano,” and Jerry Seinfeld presents his acclaimed stand-up comedy. The three world renowned performers form the core of the resort’s headliner policy, which has been responsible for Pollstar magazine ranking The Colosseum among the top two ticket selling venues of any size in the United States (Pollstar, Jan. 2004, Jan. 2005).

Tickets, priced from $ 100 to $ 1,000 (plus tax and handling fee), will go on sale at 10 a.m. PST on Friday, December 2, 2005, at Ticketmaster outlets, online at http://www.ticketmaster.com and in person at the Caesars Palace Box Office.

Sponsor packages that include luxury hotel accommodations, premium seating, fine dining and a pre-show VIP reception in PURE nightclub at Caesars Palace also are available online at http://www.caesarspalace.com.

Former Celine Dion Translator Tackles Sexual Obsession and History in Romania

Former Celine Dion Translator Tackles Sexual Obsession and History in Romania

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 4, 2006

On Sunday, May 7, 2006, Celine Dion and cast will celebrate the 500th performance of A New Day…, created by DRAGONE and presented by Chrysler at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. But Celine Dion isn’t thinking only of her own stupendous success. She will use this special occasion to give something back to the Las Vegas community by donating all proceeds from the show to The Celine Dion Foundation to benefit 10 Las Vegas charities.

Nevertheless, not everyone seems to be waiting in line to cheer the charismatic singer. Pop Life, a division of QuickDFW.com that covers the pop culture scene on a global scale, quoted some unflattering remarks about Dion by her translator, Bruce Benderson, in Benderson’s own memoir, “The Romanian: Story of an Obsession.” Speaking of the unenviable task of translating Dion’s memoirs, Benderson said, “I felt as if I’d been plunged into a swamp of banality whose shores would never be sighted.”

Benderson’s book, which won the Prix de Flore, a prestigious French literary prize, in 2004, details his infatuation for a Romanian hustler “in cheap club-kid platforms, with dollar signs in his squinting eyes.” Part personal tale and part travel memoir, the book also weaves in a story of King Carol, Romania’s last monarch, whose scandalous affair with a Jewish mistress, Lupescu, helped bring Romania to its knees shortly before World War II.

“I’ve got nothing against Celine Dion,” remarked Benderson. “In fact, I think she sounds pretty good when she sings in French. But putting her saccharine autobiography into English during a long, sizzling summer in Bucharest to support a lazy lover wasn’t exactly a garden party.”

The Romanian: Story of an Obsession was released on February 2 by Tarcher/Penguin and has garnered rave reviews from the Los Angeles Times, The Seattle Times and The Village Voice.

Eric Bibb

Eric Bibb

Eric Bibb, international folk-blues master of songcraft, is returning to his Australian fans – new and longer term alike – to perform a series of inspirational concerts. This run of shows brought to you by Chugg Entertainment and Gaynor Crawford will take in capital cities, and includes much anticipated performances at Byron Bay’s Bluesfest music festival.

In duo mode for this Australian tour, Eric will be accompanied by beautiful Swedish guitarist Staffan Astner, (Celine Dion) who is also featured on a new live CD (called Troubadour Live!) that Eric will have available for this Australian tour.

Eric will showcase material from his latest full length studio release – Booker’s Guitar – an incredible album inspired by the opportunity Eric had to play a 1930s guitar owned by blues legend Booker White. Booker’s Guitar has gone on to recently win the 2010 DownBeat Critics Poll for best Blues Album!

While an artist that has been inspired by pre-war Delta blues music, Eric Bibb has brought the acoustic country-blues sound into the new century with Booker’s Guitar. The New York Post explains the genesis of the new album, “After a London gig, a fan approached Eric to see if he wanted to play blues legend Booker (Bukka) White’s vintage guitar, which he had acquired. White was B.B. King’s older cousin, and a master of slide acoustic guitar Delta blues. The experience playing that blues relic fired up Bibb.”

Soul Survivors Tour – Vivian Green and Eric Roberson

Soul Survivors Tour – Vivian Green and Eric Roberson

“This record absolutely feels like it’s more mine than anything I’ve done before,” Vivian Green says of Beautiful, her third album and her first for E1 Music. “I’ve grown a lot, as a singer and as a writer and as a person. I’m more seasoned and more confident now, and I’m better at knowing what I want to do. Now I allow myself to make music that I like, as opposed to music that someone else thinks I should be doing.”

Indeed, Beautiful is a musical and personal landmark for the charismatic Philadelphia-bred singer/songwriter/pianist, continuing the vibrant creative evolution that began with her breakthrough debut album A Love Story and continued on her widely acclaimed follow up Vivian.

Throughout Beautiful, Vivian Green delivers compellingly contemporary R&B songcraft that’s steeped in the emotional immediacy of classic soul. The songs explore the ins and outs of love from a variety of perspectives, from the youthful romanticism of “Somewhere” to the playful insight of “”Better Man” to the hard-won intensity of “When Were Apart” and “Beautiful.”

“These songs are all very personal, even if they’re not all directly about me,” Vivian asserts, adding, “A lot of them are songs I couldn’t have written on my first two albums, because I just didn’t have the experience or the wisdom at the time.”

In contrast to her first two albums, which were recorded in a variety of studios with multiple producers, Vivian approached the recording of Beautiful in a more intimate, organic manner. With the exception of “Save Me,” which she cut with Jason Farmer (Keyshia Cole, Rihanna, Wyclef Jean) in the producer’s seat, Vivian recorded the entire album with Grammy-nominated producer Anthony Bell, a longtime friend and collaborator who made key production contributions to her first two albums, and whose extensive resume also includes work with Jazmine Sullivan, Jewel, Musiq, Raheem DeVaughn and Jill Scott.

“It’s the most fun I’ve ever had making a record,” Vivian says of Beautifuls birth cycle. “We worked in Anthony’s studio, which is in his home, and it was a very relaxed, creative environment. If I wanted to sit down at the piano and start writing a song from scratch, like I did with ‘Somewhere,’ I could. The whole experience was very natural and comfortable, and I hope that you can hear that in the music.”

Co-writing with Vivian on four of Beautiful’s songs was her younger brother Solomon Green, a budding rapper whom she’d been urging to branch out into songwriting. “I always felt he should diversify,” she explains. “One day I brought him to the studio to write with me, and it was like, wow. It was awesome and rewarding to watch my baby brother blossom that way, and I’m really proud of him.”

Growing up in the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, Vivian Green’s musical talents emerged early in life. After receiving early training as a classical pianist and vocalist, she gained invaluable experience performing in jazz clubs, weddings and corporate functions. By covering songs by Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, and Aretha Franklin, among others, Vivian strengthened her vocal range. She recorded demos of her own compositions through her teen years, and received her first professional songwriting credit when Boyz II Men recorded her “Dear G**” on their platinum-selling album Evolution.

Vivian’s increasing notoriety helped to win her a record deal with Sony Music, which released her debut album A Love Story in 2002. That disc spawned the urban AC/dance hits “Emotional Rollercoaster” and “Fanatic,” and established Vivian as one of the year’s most celebrated new artists. After a three-year recording hiatus, during which she gave birth to a son, she broke new musical ground on her second album Vivian, which produced the number one AC/dance singles “Gotta Go, Gotta Leave” and “I Like it But I Dont Need It.” Vivian won rave reviews in such outlets as People, Rolling Stone and The New York Times, which described the album as “a stellar sophomore accomplishment.” Touring to support her first two albums, Vivian won a reputation as a riveting live performer, sharing stages with such artists as Maxwell, Teena Marie, Betty Wright, Chaka Khan, Betty Wright, Q-Tip, Anthony Hamilton, and Common.

In 2003, Vivian made her film debut, portraying Billie Holiday and performing the Holiday classic “Love for Sale” in the Oscar-nominated Cole Porter biopic De-Lovely. Two years later, she appeared in the TV series American Dreams, playing the role of Brenda Holloway and singing Holloway’s Motown hit Every Little But Hurts.” Vivian wrote the music for David E. Talbert’s popular all-star stage play Love in the Nick of Tyme, which debuted in 2007. Also in 2007, she guested on Guru’s album Jazzmatazz Vol. 4 and Cyndi Lauper’s The Body Acoustic.

Vivian Green’s varied musical and personal experiences are reflected in the personally charged, effortlessly soulful music she makes on Beautiful. “As we get older,” she notes, “we get wiser and stronger and more secure in who we are. That’s definitely been true for me, and I hope that it comes through in the music I make.”
